Google.cn No Longer Censored
Google announced today that they are no longer censoring its search engine in China. This is a monumental move towards giving Chinese citizens the right to search for all of the true information available in the world. The Chinese government currently censors a lot of information for many reasons. In the example below you can see the difference if you search for Tiananmen in the US or in China. They clearly censor their search results to show only beautiful images of what they want their citizens to see. But when you have no censorship, you really see the horror which occurred in Tiananmen Square.
I commend Google for lifting the censor; and they list their reasons for doing so in the official blog post. They realize that it could hurt their company and overall business in China, which is a huge market, and yet they went forward with their decision.
Update: China censored Google’s announcement that they were no longer censoring the search results!
